there was either no snow, or a bunch of snow.

Blaine's First Christmas

I'm back! My delivery went great and I now have the cutest little boy known to mankind! I am gearing up to shoot a wedding and a senior session in Arizona next week and now am back in business. Since this is my little boy's first christmas, naturally I wanted a picture of him with Santa. I was just going to take him to the mall when my boss rented a santa suit for a school dance we photographed. The morning before he had to return the suit, I went into the studio with my husband and baby and took my own santa portraits. They turned out really sweet and I know I'll treasure them much more than a snapshot of my baby with some stranger at the mall. I think it would make a great photo special to have dads bring in their babies. Maybe I'll set that up next year :)

Well, what can I say. I am 40 weeks pregnant and so my photographing has slowed down a lot. I'm sure once I have my little guy there will be plenty of baby portraits for me to blog about. I just wanted to share with you a few recent family photos and apologize for my lack of blogging. Once my baby gets a little bigger then I'll continue to blog at full speed ahead, but for now I'll be taking a little break. Happy Fall everybody!

So I don't remember if I've mentioned this or not, but

I bought a booth at the Phoenix Bridal Show in June!!!

I have been preparing like mad, trying to get my portfolio

together, putting together my booth, finding cute little

decorations and snacks that will make my book rock the show!

I've been to several trade shows before, so I think I get the

drill. I also know what kinds of booths make me stop and

spend some time so hopefully this will all be a huge success.

So in honor of my obsession with the bridal show, here are

my dad has an award winning documentary,

and this is the best I could come up with.

After Dark Education

I'm home from Las Vegas!!

...and I couldn't be happier.

As I mentioned, I have been attending multiple

conventions over the past few weeks filling my brain

with infinite wisdom and getting suckered into paying

for over priced food.

The first convention I attended is called After Dark Education.

Why is it called After Dark?

Because the convention goes from 1pm-3am

Those of you who know me at all know what I am the

type of gal that enjoys going to bed at 10 or 11

and don't like to wake up until about 10 or 11.

But I managed to survive!

After Dark is a really hands on convention. There

are a bunch of shooting bays and you get to photograph

in almost every class you attend.

So here I am in Vegas. I just finished the After Dark Education photography convention and learned too much and now want to purchase a million things. One thing that was drilled into my head is that it's lame to JUST post photos on your blog and that you need to give your blog a personality. I always figured my blog posting style of little to no writing was awesome because I hate reading, so why on earth would I subject my followers to reading? I suppose my new philosophy will be, if you want to read the crap that I write... awesome! if you don't... then don't bother reading. Just skip the text and look at the portraits.

Sadly, I have no portraits to post today (I'm not on my computer so all my images are still on a CF card in my camera. But let me tell you, the next few posts will be some pretty different pictures. You see, After Dark Education is a convention where you learn by doing, so I took a lot of pictures in my classes so I could learn new and different techniques or just get some more practice on some stuff I already know. The models they provided for us are crazy! One of them had silver metallic lipstick and was wearing some Alice in wonderland reject outfit! They're pretty cool and I'm excited to share them with you.

Tomorrow I am heading over to the other side of the Vegas strip to WPPI. It's the big wedding convention they have every year. What dose it stand for? hmm. I have no clue, Wedding Professional Photographers International?? That's my best guess. I'm sure you could google it and find out if you really care. I'm really excited to attend though. I've been wanting to go for a while now and so I hope it lives up to my expectations. I want to start focusing more on weddings. I am so excited because I bought a booth at the AZ Bridal Expo!!! June 12th everyone! I am already working like mad to create the coolest booth ever but if you have any ideas or suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm sure you will be hearing much much more about the Bridal Expo the closer it gets.

In other news, I miss my hubby Nate like crazy. I tried to convince him to come to Vegas with me, but he's working hard applying to grad school (I hope we end up going to ASU so we can be back in the Phoenix Valley!) so he didn't think it'd be practical to come. Gosh Darn practicality. I did buy him a set of Las Vegas playing cards though. Don't tell him! (Nate never reads my blog so I feel it's safe to post).

Man, this turned from trying to type a little somthin to a journal entry.... sorry about that. I've gotta work on my blogging skills. Hopefully I'll improve with practice. PPA Convention, Texas

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the

PPA Imaging USA convention in San Antonio Texas!

It was so incredible. I learned a lot about business,

posing, and marketing. I also met a lot of famous photographers

like Lou Freeman, Anthony Vazques, Lori Nordstrom,

Most of the members of the society of XXV, and

a bunch more. I went with Travis Gugelman (my boss) and

got to see him speak as well. He had a HUGE turn out

and did really well with his presentation.

I got to help Travis present on stage and even got a laugh :)

The Trade Show was probably one of the best things about

the convention. It was HUGE! Here is a clip of the trade show...

Most importantly the convention made me pumped up to

be a better photographer. I'm making new goals to improve

my skills and to grow my business. I can't wait to go to Vegas

next month to attend After Dark Education and grow even more.

My friend, Stephanie, Is about to graduate from the Marriott School of Business this year at Brigham Young University. Her internship is with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). She was selected for several reasons; one is that her younger sister, Amber, has Cystic Fibrosis and is today doing very well with her health because of the treatments that have been discovered because of these research fund raisers; and second because Stephanie has actively supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for over 14 years and has raised over $25,000 in that time.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has tasked her with the full development of a research fund raiser. Typically a large group would be over an event like this and it requires a year in planning to execute one of these fund raisers. Stephanie has completed this with a recruited team in less than 5 months.

The Goal is to raise $10,000 on this one weekend. I am asking you to personally support her in meeting her goal. She is well on her way to meeting her objective but still needs your help. Table Rock

Nate and I went camping with his Cousins this weekend.

They have nine kids in their family and cooked the best

camping food that I've ever had.

A group of them were going to hike table rock in the morning

and I was invited to come. I hesitated because I'm not exactly

in my most athletic stage of life, but after they promised not

to get upset if I was slow I decided I would go to.

After all, it's only a 3 mile hike up the mountain, and

I've been wanting to do some landscape work.

We started off at 9:30am ish and it was incredibly steep, but I was

assured that it would get easier as we went on.

Within the first mile I already had a big blister on

my left heel, but I still pressed on.

Soon we got to where we could see our destination,

it didn't look so far off and so we found new

motivation. This was our view...

But about right here is where my hip joints decided to

stop working. They literally froze up and tried their

hardest to stop me from pushing them any further.

I was so close! I had to keep going! I could SEE where I needed

to be and knew that even if I went slow, I'd eventually get there.

So I put one foot in front of the other, step by step.

It was really pathetic. Like really.

I looked like I was crippled or learning how to walk.

I clenched my firsts and swung my legs forward one at a time.

It took a few seconds between each step so my pace was

closer to a crawl. Nate's cousins were encouraging me and

Nate was right behind me the whole way, telling me I could do it.

Then at last...

I DID IT!!!!

And it was all worth it for THIS...

The hike down is another story on it's own. Let's

just say we took a different route and

almost didn't make it back before dark

The whole hike took 11 hours ...ouch

Let's just say I'll be using this 3 day weekend to recover.

I had the chance to attend a PPI (professional photographers of Idaho) convention. TriCoast Photography came and spoke about off camera flashes and radiopoppers. It was a lot of fun and I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. The first two pictures are of the senior models that came to the convention, and the bottom two are my experiments with my little sister. Not bad for my first time, but I plan on improving. Now all I need is the ability to afford all the equipment!
